New Program! 

The TEACH Grant

A New Federal Grant Available for 2008-2009 School Year

Beginning Fall 2008 a new federal grant program, the Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) grant will be available for students who have an interest in teaching. This grant provides up to $4000 per year to undergraduate, post-baccalaureate and graduate students who intend to teach in schools that serve students from low-income families.

Apply for Summer School 2008 Financial Aid 

THE PRIORITY PROCESSING DEADLINE WAS MARCH 1, 2008
However you may still apply.  
Students who apply after the March 1st priority date 
will still be considered for their remaining annual eligibility 
in Stafford Loan and/or Parent PLUS Loan and/or Graduate PLUS.


Cougar Commitment Program

What is the Cougar Commitment? 

Washington State University believes that finances should not be a barrier to obtaining an education and students from all economic backgrounds should have the opportunity to attend WSU. With the Cougar Commitment Program, WSU commits to covering the cost of tuition and mandatory fees for students who otherwise could not afford to attend.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be filed each year in order for you to be considered for financial aid.  

  • To receive priority (first consideration) processing for financial aid, a current year  FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) must be on file with the federal processor.  Applications filed after March 1 will be considered for assistance but after all priority applications. However we still encourage you to apply.

    • We encourage you to file on the web if you have access since we receive the results more quickly.

  • The paper form is available in our office.  

    • If you wish, we can mail you an application; e-mail us at finaid@wsu.edu with your request and mailing address. 

    • Paper applications are also available at your local area colleges, high schools, and other locations. 

  • When filing the FAFSA you will need our federal school code: 003800.

  • Work-Study and Student Hourly employment opportunities are posted at the new Student Employment Center website: www.studentjobs.wsu.edu (referred to as JobX). 
    • Students can search for jobs, receive email about new openings, and apply for positions on-line!  
  • The web site features on- and off-campus employment opportunities.  
  • A wide variety of need based work-study (federal or state) and non-need student hourly jobs are available.

Loan program for grads!

A federal student loan option, the Graduate/ Professional PLUS Loan, is available to qualifying graduate and professional students.  This loan differs from the Stafford Loan program in several important ways.  

  • You (or your endorser) must meet minimum credit eligibility requirements.  

  • The interest rate is fixed at 8.5 percent, and unless you choose to postpone repayment while you are in school, repayment begins 60 days after your second disbursement.  

  • Please visit www.edfund.org/pdfs/i-118.pdf for other important information.  

    • Further, note that as a borrower of this new loan, you will be required to complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN), available in July at www.edfund.org.

Mailing Address and Phone Number Update Reminder

  • Please remember that your mailing address on the MyWSU is what is used to contact you and/or to send you important information such as your award letter.  As you return to Pullman, and/or move within the area, please take a moment and update the mailing address and phone number for better service from all WSU offices.

  • We are not allowed to update your address for you.


  Stafford Entrance Counseling (Interview) Session

  • Any first-time Stafford borrower is required to complete Stafford Entrance Counseling before receiving the first disbursement of their loan.  This requirement can be completed online at:  www.mapping-your-future.org
  • Students enrolled at an urban campus or learning center, through the Distance Degree Programs, or finishing an internship should complete the exit interview on the web here.
  • Any Stafford Loan borrower who will graduate at the end of the term is required to complete an Exit Counseling session.  You may complete the requirement online at:  Stafford Exit Counseling.  If you do not have internet access, please contact us and we will mail you a packet.

MyWSU

MyWSU (the e-InfoCenter is no longer available) provides 24/7 access via the Internet to your financial aid status, as well as grade information, student billing statements, address changes, degree information and more.  Go to MyWSU.


Downloadable Forms
If you have received a letter from our office asking you to download and print additional information or verification forms, please click here to go to the forms download page.  If you are unable to download the forms and/or do not have internet access, please call our office and we will be happy to mail you a set of the requested forms. 


Revised Award Notifications
You may receive a Revised Financial Award Notification.  

  • Whenever your Cost of Attendance, your Expected Family Contribution, and/or your financial aid awards change, we will send you a Revised Award Notification.  

  • You should carefully compare the new letter with the old and note what changes have been made.  

  • If there is a Guide to Your Revised Aid Notification enclosed, it will contain information concerning why the change was made and anything you might need to do because of the change.  

  • All  current awards can be accessed via MyWSU.
