Veterinary Medicine/Pharmacy
Types of Aid
Students pursuing a professional degree in the Pharmacy
or Veterinary Medicine programs are eligible to borrow Federal Stafford
Loans to fund their educational expenses. Professional students
are considered to be independent for financial aid purposes and
are not eligible to receive Parent PLUS Loans. They are also not eligible
for grant funding due to the nature of their program. Because some
of the expenses cannot be met through standard federal award amounts,
we often see these students borrowing private loans through outside
lenders in order to meet the remainder of their costs.
- PROFESSIONAL 3rd YEAR STUDENT STAFFORD
LOANS:
Students who are admitted into a
professional program with less than 72 semester hours of
coursework are eligible for Stafford Loan limits at the junior
level of $10,500. In order to qualify for the higher
professional Stafford loan limits, a student must be both
enrolled in a professional program and have completed the
equivalent of 3 academic years of full-time study (72 semester
hours). Once the student has achieved the required 72
semester hours, they are eligible for the higher professional
loan limits.
