The Washington State Need Grant program helps the state’s lowest-income undergraduate students pursue degrees, hone their skills, or retrain for new careers. Students can use the grants at public two- and four-year colleges and universities and many accredited independent colleges, universities, and career schools in Washington.
Award Amounts
Eligibility
To be eligible, you must meet the following criteria:

Have a family income of equal to or less than 65 percent of the state median (see chart below);

Be a Washington State resident;
-
Enroll as an undergraduate student at least half-time in an eligible program; and
-
Be pursuing a certificate, bachelor’s degree, or first associate degree; and
-
Not be pursuing a degree in theology.
Students with family incomes equal to or less than 50 percent of the state median are eligible for up to 100 percent of the maximum grant. Students with family incomes between 51 percent and 65 percent of the state median are eligible for up to 75 percent of the maximum grant.

Award
Grant amounts vary by the type of school you attend. Following are the maximum grants you are eligible to receive if you enroll full-time
at Washington State University and have a family income equal to or less than 50 percent
or 65 percent of the state median.

Conditions
of Award

You do not owe a refund or
repayment on a State Need Grant, a Pell Grant, or a Supplemental
Education Opportunity Grant, nor are you in default on a loan
made, insured, or guaranteed under the Perkins, National Direct,
or Federal Family Education Loan programs. In addition,
you are not in default on a loan made through a state
conditional loan or a conditional scholarship program.

This grant is awarded to
assist in meeting your educational expenses; and should you
withdraw from classes, repayment of all or a part of the grant
may be required.

You can choose to voluntarily
make financial contributions to the Higher Education
Coordinating Board in recognition of this State Need
Grant. All voluntary contributions will be used to provide
financial assistance to other students.

The offer of a State Need
Grant is subject to and conditioned upon the availability of
funds. The Higher Education Coordinating Board and the
institution through which this grant is awarded, reserve the
right to withdraw, reduce, or modify the grant due to funding
limitations or due to changes in circumstances which affect your
eligibility for the State Need Grant.

You are not pursing a degree
in theology.

You will be considered automatically for a State Need Grant when you file the
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Contact your school financial aid office for more
information on filing the FAFSA.
