Applying for Summer Financial Aid
To apply for summer financial aid, a student must have
the current year's FAFSA on file and submit a summer school financial
aid application.
-
For Summer 2008, a 2007-2008
FAFSA
must be on file by June 30, 2008.
-
The FAFSA can be filed online at: www.fafsa.ed.gov.
-
The WSU Summer 2008 Financial Aid Application
Form is available:
- for you to complete online!
-
- for you to download-print,
complete and returned
to our office;
- for you to pick up from our office or your
local campus; or
-
The priority processing deadline for Summer
2008 financial aid was
March 1, 2008.
-
Students who apply after the March 1st priority
date will still be considered for their remaining eligibility in
Stafford Loan and/or Parent PLUS Loan.
To download and print the Summer
2008 Financial Aid Application Form you must have a copy of
Adobe
Acrobat Reader and a printer attached to your computer.
-
Stafford Loans have an annual borrowing limit
based on the student's accumulated credit hours. [Click
here for a table showing
all annual limits.]
-
If
a student has already borrowed the full annual
limit for the preceding fall and/or spring semester, they will
have no remaining Stafford Loan eligibility for the summer.
-
For example, if a freshman student (one who has completed 0-29
credit hours) borrowed $3500 for the 2007-2008 academic year,
they would have no remaining eligibility for Summer 2008 because their
annual limit is $3500.
-
However,
if a sophomore student (one who has completed 30-59
credit hours) borrowed $3000 for the 2007-2008 academic year
they would have remaining eligibility of $1500 for Summer 2008 because their
annual limit is $4500.
Availability of Summer
Financial Aid
Due to academic year expenditures,
the most likely funds available for Summer Session
2008 will be Stafford Loan, Parent
PLUS Loan, Graduate PLUS loan, and remaining Pell Grant eligibility from the 2007-2008 academic year. The Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarship Services
(OSFA/OSS) is available to explain funding options available to students.

confirmed and funds arrive, direct deposits will be made directly to your bank account.
(See below for more information on direct deposit.)
-
Aid will not be available until you have begun
the first session in which you are registered.
-
When the aid is disbursed, it will pay the tuition
and fees for ONLY the current session of enrollment.
These costs will be deducted from your aid prior to creating
a direct deposit or a financial aid check.
-
If you are enrolling
in later sessions, tuition and mandatory fees will be
charged to your student account according
to the Summer Session Catalog and
you will be expected to pay them at that time.
-
Please remember to reserve
funding to pay for additional summer session tuition when budgeting
your financial aid.
-
You are expected to provide your own resources
between the end of the spring semester and the beginning of
the summer session in which you are enrolled.
Direct Deposit
-
Direct deposit allows the University to directly deposit any residual amounts
of financial aid directly
to your personal bank account. ("Residual"
means funds left after the payment of required tuition,
mandatory fees, and/or if applicable, room and board payments.) You may
complete the information electronically at: http://www.wsu.edu/studacct/directdeposit.htm
-
Questions regarding direct deposit should be directed
to the University Receivables Office at (509) 335-9651, or e-mail
them at univ-receivables@wsu.edu

Unsubsidized)
Graduate PLUS Loan
For Stafford and Graduate
PLUS Loan borrowers

are eligible for a federal Subsidized or Unsubsidized Stafford
Loan or federal Graduate PLUS Loan, you need to indicate your acceptance of the award and
the amount on your award notification. Return a signed copy of
the notification to the Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA).
-
If you are a student borrower who previously
completed a Master Promissory Note from WSU, you are
NOT required to complete a new promissory note.
Accepting the loans on your award notification will allow
the OSFA to process your loans with the same lender used
during the academic year.
If you are a first-time Stafford
or Graduate PLUS Loan borrower
at Washington State University,
-
You will need to accept your loan on
your award notification letter, either by signing and
returning one copy of the letter to our office or by
calling us to accept the loan verbally.
-
24 hours after
accepting your loan, you will need to complete the
Master Promissory Note (MPN) at www.edfund.org.

Private (Alternative) Loans
-
Private loan funding is available for summer
costs to students who have exhausted all other forms of financial
aid.
-
You must have a good credit
history
and in many
cases a co-signer to be eligible for these loans.
-
To apply for a private loan, review the list
of recommended programs on our web site at Private/Alternative Loans.
Please note that you may select a lender other than those
on our list.
-
Connect to the web site for the lender you will
use and follow the instructions for completing the application.
-
Most lenders have an on-line
application
but you may
have to download the application to complete it.
-
If the lender sends the funds to WSU
electronically:
-
If the lender sends a check:
-
If you are a WSU
Pullman student,
you will
need to pick the check up at University Receivables,
French Administration Building, Room 342, or ask
to have it mailed to you ((509) 335-9651).
-
If you are attending a campus
other than Pullman, your check will be mailed to your
local campus for pickup.
-
If you are a Distance
Degree (DDP) student, your check will be mailed
directly to you.
-
If you have direct
deposit, funds will
be deposited directly to your bank account.
-
In
all cases, if a check is received, no outstanding charges will be paid on your
account and you will be responsible for using the proceeds
of the check to pay your outstanding account balance.
Emergency/Short Term Loan Program
-
An Emergency/Short
Term Loan program is available for students
who have emergency situations. These situations may arise
when expected financial aid is not available to cover costs
in a timely manner or when unexpected costs occur. Short term
loans are not available to cover periods when you are not
enrolled. (In most
cases, a short term loan requires a co-signer.)
-
Students must have a guaranteed
source of repayment, such as financial aid, to be eligible to borrow a short term
loan.
-
An Emergency/Short
Term Loan may not be used to pay the balance on your student
account.
-
Contact
the OSFA or your local campus Student Service Coordinator
for short term loan counseling and applications.
